The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Upsie (FR), placed third, ridden by D.J. Casey, and trained by W.P. Mullins. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned, and from Mr Noel O'Brien, Senior Turf Club National Hunt Handicapper.
D.J. Casey, stated that his instructions were to drop the filly in, get her jumping, and get her to come home as best she could. He said he knew there would be alot of pace in the race and he was happy to drop her in off the fast pace, and even still she was a little keen, but he kept giving her a chance to fill her lungs up and give her the best chance to come home well. He stated he put her into the race from the third last and felt he had obtained his best possible placing.
W.P. Mullins confirmed the instructions, stating he knew there would be plenty of pace in the race, and he felt the best chance for this filly was to come from behind, as he isn't quite sure what her optimum trip is yet and he didn't see the point of riding her handily in a race where he had 2 other runners, both of which were confirmed stayers. He added that he was satisfied with the ride and that the filly had achieved her best possible placing of third, having been beaten by two better horses. He thought the better ground today suited his charge and he didn't know what plans he had for the filly going forward.
Mr Noel O'Brien evaluated the level of form for the Stewards, saying the filly had ran up to the form she has shown previously.
